The sights, sounds and scents – the overwhelming sensory perception of being in India is pervasive the minute you step out of the airport.

Today, India is often described as being on the cusp of change – likened to an elephant making large strides at a calculated pace. The progress is visible in the form of new infrastructure in the few metropolis of the largely agrarian country. But, the real pulse of progress is better gauged through conversations with locals from different fabrics of Indian society.

What remains steadfast though is a vibrant landscape, especially in the capitals, that have undergone versatile rule, interspersing between Hindu dominance, Persian patronage, colonial influence and continuing modernization.

The compelling contrasts are inescapable to the naked eye. Amid the chaos of its urban centers, India remains a melange of influences that date to the beginning of the last millennium.
